GLAD TO BE HEALTHY AGAIN

Jimmy finally get to be home again with a clean bill of health after being stuck at the vet for 10 days. Drips after drips, injections after injections. That was how it went day to day. At least he was closely monitored by the experts to ensure that he got the best treatment to be alive still. Well, it would be some time before I can stay scratch free as there are these huge vitamins feeding time again~ Argh!! Luckily, his appetite got boosted up and he's on a eating spree now. I'm so glad that I could secretly put some of his vitamins into his food now instead of force feeding him as before. He lost 500gms before and now he gained back even more. Now I'm having a fluffy and fat cat again~ :)

HAS THE BLEEDING FINALLY STOPPED?

With all the celebrations going on during this Chinese New Year, you might ask why I'm still here and not out there celebrating with my family and friends? The reason... I could not be away for more than a few hours as I have a sick cat here who needed my endless support. Mama Jessica bled for the last 3 days, even with all the medications given from my second visit to the vet, and to show all the blood shots taken would surely spoil your beautiful weekend. Furthermore, I have been down with lethargy from all the hourly monitoring. I'm sorry for not updating sooner.

One good news - her urine has begun to turn light pinkish this morning. It's a good sign that she's improving. Let's hope it would be all cleared by the week. But will it? I have been hit with a more serious case than the first time just barely a few days ago and I'm now not too sure if it would happen again. I've tried being positive but then the fear of loosing her kept me in stress each day. No matter what, I would ensure that she has the necessary check up again this coming Monday. I hope I can cope up with all these frequent visits soon.

At least for now, she's all cleaned up and happily claiming my sofa again~ sweat~ Let it be... I'm not complaining as I would love to see her being healthy again within the shortest period of time. Gosh~ she has lost so much weight~ Haiz~ Let's hope her new diet would improve her loss weight soon.

MAMA JESSICA IN EMERGENCY AGAIN

UPDATE:
February 2:
11.20am - Blood strains still everywhere... I hope the medications given would work faster. I'm forced to lock her up in the bathroom. She may look like she's fine but inside her existed the pain that I would never be able to detect.

10.30pm - It has been a tiring day rushing here and there to get situations in order. The vet could not detect any problems with Mama Jessica, especially when she's still under medication. More medications have been given to her to stabilize her bleeding. Another bomb~ sweat~ The only suspicion was that she tried too hard to poo and the bleeding came back. This should not be happening as I had changed her diet to semi dry food. I had used the latest Purina Friskies 2-in-1 Gravy Coated Salmon & Tuna Flavor where a little water would made them gravy like bites plus I had also added in some Whiskas's Chicken & Tuna wet food. She should not have problem making her poo. She would be under strict monitoring again these few days. Let's hope things gets better now. I'm getting real worried for her health now.

9.50am - Now she's all covered with blood even after I have cleared all the stains on the floor! :( Going off to the vet now... lucky it's about 5 minute's drive away.

JESSBLOOD04

9.33am - It looked as though I had murdered something in my bathroom. Panicky now~ Less than half an hour before the vet is open. :(

JESSBLOOD03

--------------------------------------------------------

When things began to look bright and promising, I was hit with another dilemma half an hour ago. Mama Jessica bled again in spots all over my indoor and outdoor floors, cushion and my bed. :(

JESSBLOOD01

It's to the vet again once they are open in another 1.5 hours. It's going to be another stressful week for me with Chinese New Year being two days from now. I better get ready to rush her to the vet very soon as today would be the last day they are open for business until next Monday. :(

FINALLY SHE HAD SOMETHING INTO HER TUMMY

Would you believe that for the pass 18 hours I did not even let Mama Jessica out from my sight? We ate, we slept and we wandered within the house inseparable… sweat~ I had just spent the last 2 hours inspecting her actions out at my porch area, obstructing her from jumping over the fence not less than 3 times. No… no… She definitely not allowed outdoor unmonitored again for at least another few days prior to her check-up.

JESSWELL02

At least the blood trace in her urine is getting lesser and lesser by the hours. That’s a good sign indeed.

JESSWELL01

Getting her to eat and drink with either wet or dry food was a huge task. She would rather sleep or stare out of the windows (in search of an escape route I guessed which was quite impossible… LOL!). Anyway, I managed to coax her to sip in some water and munch a few cat biscuits this morning. Finally, she decided to eat more and drink more during lunch time. That was a relief for me.

JESSWELL03

But~ I’m still having problems getting her to take in all her medications. Don’t you think a 12mm diameter tablet could be a bit too big for her to consume? I even tried breaking it up to smaller pieces but that gave me more scratches on my wrists. It’s like meeting Freddy Krueger from Elm Street. What a nightmare for me! It’s time to get some cheese wrapped tablets for her. :P

JESSWELL06

I guessed I would keep this update short for the time being as I really need some rest now as one of my eyes is swollen now. Moreover, there are quite a few blood stained cushion covers and floor to sanitize before she wakes up from her dreamland. Anyway, thanks for all the supports and wishes you have given here. I appreciate it a lot. Errr… oh no… Mama Jessica woke up due to a commotion outside.

JESSWELL04

That must be JT (Jay Tux), my new daily stalker in the compound. Well, I would not turn down a cat in need, would you? :)

MAMA JESSICA NEED HELP URGENTLY NOW

UPDATE:

11.00pm - She's awake but refused to eat even with the best food given on her plate. Fortunately, she did sip in some warm water. She has not stop licking her "ahem" yet. I'm still following her around to clean your those "sliding" blood stains she made on my living room. Patient... patient... Daddy... This will pass soon. She has gone back sleeping in her bed... err... cage on her own. Smart girl~ :)

7.00pm - Extremely exhausted! Just back from the vet with a bunch of medications which I would even be too scared to swallow. The amount and size of those tablets would get me more scratches now. Mama Jess... please spare me... those medications would do you much good. Luckily I was swift enough to take action as it was an acute case. Another few hours of disappearing act would surely send her to heaven. Too bad, I'm forced to lock her up for now. From the many hours of observation, she was still bleeding but not as much as this morning. I hope those medications would get her all well again. I have to monitor her condition for a few days and send her back to the vet for a few more thorough check ups. Sweat~ Let's hope this would clear up too as next week would be a long week of festive holiday and the vet would be closed. :( She's now sleeping soundly in her cage now. Let's hope she would eat something when she wakes up.

While waiting for the vet to be available within the next one hour or so, I did a little research and I was in a state of shock to find out what made Mama Jessica having those weird behaviors for the past 2 days. The case of Jeremy’s death had made me quite a nervous wreck for quite some time and now this with Mama Jessica making occasional disappearing acts for as long as 36 hours. As for Jeremy’s case, it was suspected to be Acute Renal Failure (ARF) but I found out that those symptoms were more likely to be associated with Feline Lower Tract Urinary Disease (FLUTD), one of the causes of blood in a cat's urine medically known as hematuria. This is one scary disease that made me extremely cautious with the daily affairs of the J Family Kitties.

Now I suspect that Mama Jessica is suffering from Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) which I pray would not be fatal as in Jeremy’s case. But the percentage of symptoms shown by Mama Jessica had made me panicky.

JESSSICK01

Key symptoms of FLUTD/UTI in cats:

(/) Painful urination
(x) Straining to urinate
(x) Urine limited to a few drops or worse, no urine output
(/) Bloody urine
(/) Cat Licking frequently on its genitals
(/) Urinating out of the litter box
(/) Vomiting
(/) Loss of Appetite
(/) Lethargy
(/) Shock
(/) Hiding or disappearing frequently
(x) Death if left untreated once the toxins overwhelmed the body, poisoning the cat to death (uremic poisoning)

JESSSICK02

It’s another 20 minutes before the vet would be open and Mama Jessica almost went MIA without me noticing. I’m sorry… I have to keep her locked up securely this time. I can’t afford to lose another member of my family again. I would truly need some support of any kind now. It has been a devastating few months for me here.

JESSSICK03

I’m rather surprised here too as a mother is always a mother. She’s not showing her pain and kept on taking care of Jimmy, who has been missing her since last night.

JEREMY IS CRITICALLY ILL AND LOST

16 DECEMBER 2010:
UPDATE: 12.10pm - Monty's Mum found him dead frozen under her car. I was lost for words. :( A simple funeral was held. Goodbye Jeremy~ http://crizcats.blogspot.com/2010/12/remembering-jeremy.html

UPDATE: 10.20am - 24 hours since I found him sick. He's still missing. :(

UPDATE: 9.40am - I'M BREAKING APART...

UPDATE: 8.12am - He did not greet me this morning. I'LL NEED A MIRACLE NOW! :(

UPDATE: 2.00am - Went out to check again with Janice. Still none! :(

UPDATE: 12.00am - Armed with torch lights... Checked the whole neighborhood with a friend. Jeremy not found. :(

15 DECEMBER 2010:
UPDATE: 10.10pm - Still no sign. I'm still praying and hoping... Don't let me down Jeremy...Sob~ Sob~

UPDATE: 8.07pm - More than 10 hours and still no sign of Jeremy back for dinner. I'm not going to like the sound of it... Where could he be?

UPDATE: 5.20pm - Went out checking the whole place for the 10th time by overturning whichever place he could have been hiding... NONE! He better come out from hiding fast before it's too late to do anything for him. It's getting late now. :(

I'm panicking here...it's a matter of life and death now but I can do nothing as Jeremy went missing before I could get him to the vet. I should have kept the main door closed. :( It was truly my mistake! 5 hours had passed but I could not find him in the whole neighborhood. Where could he be hiding? I really did not expect that a sick and weak cat can still linger out and hide himself away? Jeremy~ Please come home... you need to seek treatment immediately. Pleaseeee.....

JEREMYSICK1

I felt something real strange this morning when he came hunting for me. Not his norm anyway. Suddenly, I felt that he became so lightweight overnight. While cuddling him, he looked at me with that teary eyes and gave out a weird sounding meow. That was really strange. Before I could put him down to check out what was wrong with him, he leaked on my legs... not once but three times and the smell was extremely pungent.

JEREMYSICK2

Immediately I laced a box and put him in there for inspection while taking some shots to be emailed to my vet before they are open for business. Gosh! He was still leaking and his anus was filled with bloody mucus-like liquid.

JEREMYSICK4

This was a sign for emergency but the vet won't be in until another half an hour. I quickly cleaned up all the mess, changed and planned to take him to the vet but he was no where to be found in the box, around the house and outdoor in the garden. I try seeking for him door by door in the neighborhood but there was just no sign of him at all. I'm really stressed out right now. I'm hoping for some prayers for his speedy homecoming and great health.

SLEEPLESS NIGHTS CARING MY BABY

This would be my fourth continuous night caring for my baby Joey. She has been under lots of depression after been diagnosed with many liver related complications. If I had not accidentally spotted the orange urine she gave out a few days back, she would have been in a worst condition. Panting furiously, loss of appetite, vomiting, lethargy, noticeable weight loss, inability to lie down, epilepsy and lack of energy to move about were some of the things I had noticed. I’m getting real panicky here. I pray that everything would be back to normal soon although I was informed that I had to keep my fingers crossed to see results in weeks. Syringe feeding her every few hours has been real stressful and it’s tiring me out. I love my baby a lot… please hold on baby… it’s not your time yet… please stay strong… Daddy would always be right by your side… Sob~

JOEYBABY

The heavy panting sound has even scared me further… Please pray hard for us…

PHOTO HUNTERS – LOCK

photohunters

This week’s theme is LOCK.
The owner of this blog has been LOCKed in
his room by his cats for many days
due to the outbreak of a virus in the house…
and the virus only affects humans…
Here’s what happened…

LOCK01

LOCK02

LOCK03

LOCK04

Frankly speaking, many people would surely LOCK me back in my room if they were to find out that I had secretly sneak out of my room to take some snapshots of my lovely family. Well… more than two weeks being sick in bed is terribly boring and I had never missed out PH ever since I had started… why should I skip this week’s theme?
This site would let you have more information on the virus that I could have contacted unknowingly during my hectic lifestyle few weeks back… Please excuse my absence for the last few weeks too as I was not in the best of health…

I SURVIVED THE ORDEAL!

ISURVIVED

Most of you are not aware that I have been extremely sick until Daddy had no mood or energy to write anything. I have been making Daddy very worried as I could not eat nor drink anything since last Saturday night. I have been panting for breath every second of the day and every time I tried to lie down to sleep, I was forced to stand up as I could not breathe at all. Standing up and taking a nap was not fun at all.

I knew that my family members were all hard hit by sickness during the last one month I was away at the vet but I did not expect myself to fall victim too. I was the last one and I hope it would stay that way. It had been hard and tiring for Daddy to spend all his time looking after me. Other than my medication time, he had to syringe feed me every few hours with liquid diet and energy drink to boost up my immune system and stopping me from being dehydrated. Even the thick meaty and yummy broth that Daddy has been cooking and feeding me daily did make me feel better. At least I did not go hungry although I did lose some weight now. Could you believe that this was me just few days back?

If not for his love and sacrifice for me to get well, I won’t be here jumping and pounding on the keyboard now. I’m FREE! I’m the QUEEN again! Now who should I get as my slaves? I would spare Daddy for the time being as he will need to get some good rest. I won’t be sure about that in a weeks’ time. Hahahahaha…

HOMECOMING QUEEN

HOMECOMING01

My sweet girl, Janice is finally home this morning after being “held captive” against her will for A MONTH. With all the health issues in the J Family, I didn’t even realize that time did pass by so fast. I have been very busy trying to settle some of the existing vet’s issues that I was totally knocked out towards the end of each day for the last few days. Luckily everyone were in the best of health now… well almost… with only Janice left to be treated for her mild ear wound from the last attack. Thank goodness! The health issues were finally over. Thanks to everyone who had chipped in to help out during these stressful moments. Gosh! It has been indeed an extremely tiring period for me.

The babies were very excited to have their sister back. The first moment Janice was brought into the house, Joey was the first to wish and snuggle with her sister. She really missed sleeping on her sister’s tummy all these weeks.

HOMECOMING02

Jimmy came up next and cuddled Janice as never before and gave her sister some licks to clean her up. It was such a touching moment seeing him doing that. It was like “Sis… I miss you. Can you please come and play with me now?”

HOMECOMING03

There’s one very obvious change on Janice that made me worried now. She has grown so fat with all the nutrients and vitamins she had at the vet that she had turned into a couch potato. Gosh! Have I got to serve her like a queen now? OMG! It looked like I’m going to be her slave for a long time to come. I hated that “Daddy, please do this and that and this and that” look in her eyes. But what can I say? She has been my jewel and most pampered cat in the family… Oops… favoritism! Haha!

HOMECOMING04

Today was indeed my happiest moment to get her home. It’s great to have everyone here back to being healthy, happy, playful and joyful moods again. Well, I did get a great present from Janice too. She really missed playing with me for so long in our own sanctuary that she forgot about being as lady like as she has always been. Who’s to complain to see her in such a cheerful mood now? I won’t…

HOMECOMING05

Note: To all those who had sent their well wishes as well as helping out during this period, I would like to say a big “THANK YOU!” Without you, the J Family Kitties would not have survived these ordeals. I would indeed repay whatever within my means at the present moment to help more kitties in need in the near future.

ALL WELL THAT NEVER ENDED WELL

SICKJUSTIN

It seemed that even before Janice could come back into a virus free environment, everything started again. Is the Calici Virus as diagnosed by the vets so serious that it would take 10 months to a year plus to be totally wiped out? I’m lost for words and answers now. This time, it struck Justin very badly. He didn’t eat or drink anything for the last two days. He was panting real hard too. All the medications given to him had not shown any progress at all. He has lost all his energy to even stand up for a minute! I had to force some liquid food and water into him even though he had spitted out almost 90% of the food. I’m so sad, confused, stress and not knowing what to do next…

JANICE CAN COME BACK SOON

Things seem to be better now in the J Family with Mama Jessica almost recovered. Yay! Janice can finally come home after I have settled her expenses for the 18 days of ordeal she had there… I hope. I missed her so much. I still can’t get use to her not cuddling by my pillow or between my legs each night. I hope I can get some good rest now without worrying about the health of the J Family Kitties…

BURNOUT

That’s exactly the word to describe me now. When I thought all the dilemmas I had for the past few weeks settled, another one crept up unexpectedly. How would you feel if you were to wake up on a Saturday and find this on the floor?

SICKJESS01

I was even in a greater shock when I found these spots on a table in my living room.

SICKJESS02

… with blood stains as well.

SICKJESS03

After some inspections throughout the whole house, I found out that it was Mama Jessica vomiting furiously all over the house. Again… I think it was just my fate to get sick kitties during a weekend when I needed more time for a good rest. I guessed while taking care of Jeremy, she somehow got affected by his virus. She has been sleeping most of the time for the last few days without much food. With the medications I gave her, she is now recovering quite well.

SICKJESS04

Anyway, everyone over here had recovered from the bad experiences they had earlier except that I have not brought Janice home yet. Haiz… I missed my girl…

ENSURING THE HEALTH OF THE J KITTIES

I wonder if my absence had been felt in the cat blogosphere as I have been MIA for days. One thing I have to say, I have been extremely busy ensuring the health of every kitties in the J Family are well looked into as well as mine. The whole week has been a hectic week with Justin, Joey, Jimmy and Jeremy getting themselves in and out of sicknesses. I won’t have to mention but I guessed you all would have known how tough it was to have a few purging kitties at home at the same time. By now with all the medications I had purchased from the vet, everyone except Jimmy and Jeremy had recovered.

Although Jimmy is still having some soft stools, at least those were not as watery and mucus filled as before. He should be cleared within the next few days. Jeremy was the one that made me concern the most. Constipation! That was something new to me in cats. He was down with fever ever since Sunday and I was praying hard that he would pull through. Not only fear was in his eyes. Mine too as I was in real panicky situation for the worst scenario.

SICKJEREMY02

I had to manually feed him with some wet food and water every few hours before giving him his medications. On top of that, I had to wipe him clean with a damp towel occasionally to try to keep his temperature down. You should just look at his eyes in tears. I could even feel his pain in trying to recover from his sickness. Even Mama Jessica was trying hard to comfort him at all times. I got even more heartache when I found out that he had lost some much weight considering that I always like to call him a fatty. He’s so skinny now!

SICKJEREMY01

I was relieved barely an hour ago when he gave out his first “mess”. Although it was in my living room, it was a sign that got me in tears. He was fighting to recover and he was up moving about purring and rubbing against my legs for more food! I hope his worst would be over soon.

Janice on the other hand is still at the vet, doing quite well after a minor surgery to remove that “horn” of hers. Although she was still crying for my presence, I have no other choice but to keep her there to ensure that her wound would heal properly without getting infected by the remaining sick kitties in the house. Whicky Wuudler, Oliver, Angel O'Cakes and Gerry’s Mum, Jane, was right about the Calici Virus that has been affecting Janice. I just got this information from her last night although I would love to have known it earlier without proceeding to surgery which had just cost me a bomb. From the symptoms that were described in her email, it was exactly what happened to Janice (and maybe the rest). Luckily, I forced myself to push Janice to the vet at the right time, although reluctantly due to some circumstances.

With this useful information given, it did help the vets to narrow down the assumption on what was happening to Janice. Out of curiosity, I did ask them on why they have no knowledge on such an existence of the virus. I know I was not in a position to question their expertise in treating Janice but I had to know. To my surprise, they answered me very well with a sense of humor as well. “Not all doctors would know everything unless they were specialized in a specific sickness. What Janice was experiencing was never seen before in our entire 30 years plus of involvement in the veterinary services throughout the world.” I was dumbfounded with the last statement and did not wish to ask any further.

I would like to quote what Jane had emailed me, just in case any of the kitties out there is experiencing the same symptom as Janice.

“The Merck Veterinary Manual: According to this book (reference textbook as used by veterinary surgeons) Nasopharyngeal Polyps can often be caused by Calici Virus. This is an upper respiratory virus that is common in cat colonies and is easily spread. The symptoms for Calici Virus fit perfectly (I'd bet exactly) with the symptoms you described that Janice had as an adjunct to the polyps and also your other cats. The rate of spread within your cat family fits too.

A viral swab is easily done by your vet to establish if it is Calici virus causing the polyps and other symptoms. Not every cat will get the polyps but Calici virus, whilst as a virus is not directly treatable, the symptoms CAN be treated successfully with a range of antibiotics. Once a cat has Calici Virus, it will always have it (and shed it too) and acute episodes (which can last from 7 to 10 days) can be caused by stress, which is common in multi cats household. Vaccines are available for it, but obviously this is of no use to an already infected feline.

I have a cat with Calici, Gerry - he has had one of the worst cases of Calici my vet had ever seen. 100% ulcerated mouth, oral abscesses, vomiting, extreme diarrhea, dehydration, inappetance, sneezes, coughing, depression and generalized pain. There's also a form of Calici called Limping Calici Virus (but he did not have this) and it took 9 months to stabilize him and control the episodes. Initially we tried 6 weekly injections of Depomedron (a steroid) to control it, but the effect just did not last for the interval between doses. What has worked (in the last year he's had only one episode of Calici - due to a fight with the neighbor’s cat) is Interferon. This is available from the vet in solution form - the approved brand is Virbagen Omega and it's administered once a day orally, not with food but by syringe. Interferon in contact with the cat's throat causes the immune system to work harder in that area and keep the virus at bay. For Gerry this has been a life saver and once Janice and the others have recovered (if of course it is Calici causing their illness) it may work for them too.”

Anyway, I should be real thankful to Jane for endlessly trying to help in getting Janice out from her misery. THANK YOU JANE!

PHOTO HUNTERS – LAZY

photohunters

This week’s theme is on LAZY.
It's not that I have been too LAZY to hop around,
it’s because my baby, Janice has been at the vet since Sunday.
I was so tired running around that I’m
too LAZY to shot some new photos today.
I would just show you some LAZY shots of Janice
two weeks before she was struck with this weird sickness.

LAZY01

Sometimes, I felt that Janice could be real
demanding when she gets too LAZY!

LAZY02

But I’m feeling rather lonely without her
lazing next to me now…
